Never, say never - Koa returns for Noakes Sydney Gold Coast

KOA co-owner Andy Kearnan grew up in Western Australia with every kind of watersport at his disposal. “In Perth, most people have saltwater running through their veins,” says Kearnan while preparing for the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast race. “For me it started with surfing and windsurfing and then dinghies, inshore keel boats and then offshore racing. Now I've been at it for more than 45 years.”

Rum Rebellion back in two-handed division for Noakes Sydney-Gold Coast

Rum Rebellion is the beautiful J/99 launched by Shane Connelly in 2022. “This will be Rum Rebellion’s third Audi Centre Blue Water Pointscore and like most Racer Cruisers we have been refining her over time,” says Shane Connelly. At 9.9 metres, Rum Rebellion rates among the smaller boats in the fleet. “Rum Rebellion is not extreme in design. But the J/99 is kind to her crew, strongly built and reliable. She is designed as a good all-rounder. We focus on having her immaculately prepared, safe and match-ready for offshore racing conditions with subtle improvements to her rig, sail plan and interior each year,” Connelly says.

Rupert Henry & Greg O'Shea to contest Noakes Sydney Gold Coast

Prize-winning sailor Rupert Henry is a brave and modest man. In the tradition of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, he gives the impression of being an ingenious and pioneering sailor. The sort of character you might meet in an Adventures of Tintin novel. Last year he set off single-handed in the Route du Rhum on an ill-fated mission. Still the story of him busting a boat in the Atlantic Ocean is a kind of anomaly in his career.
