Mercury rising for sailing mates from RPAYC
Mark Waterhouse and Mark Tinworth will enter the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast this week after a few year's hiatus from the race. Representing the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club this pair of friends have jointly owned race boats for almost two decades. Two years ago they decided to upgrade from their Beneteau 44.7 Le Billet to Mercury. Mercury is a modified Farr 40 with a heavier keel, twin wheels and modified rudder and boom. All mods have been done with a good IRC number in mind.

John ‘Herman’ Winning Jnr has entered Andoo Comanche in the 2023 Noakes Sydney Coast Yacht Race. Winning Jr has chartered the yacht since 2021, campaigning her in both the 2022 and 2023 Rolex Sydney Hobart and Noakes Sydney Gold Coast races.

Contesting two-handed this year in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race is Chris O’Neil’s Blue Planet. Although O’Neil has never owned an offshore boat before last year, he has sailed since childhood and done four Rolex Sydney Hobarts and three Noakes Sydney Gold Coast races.

Whisper saunters to the start line
David Griffith’s*Whisper, formally know as Chinese Whisper is a boat well known in the sailing community. It has a beautiful and sleek design, that exudes perfection. Needless to say, when she heads for the start line for the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, she will be looking ultra-competitive. In 2021 Whisper won overall honours in the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge, cementing her Mini Maxi Division win in the inaugural Income Asset Management Australian Maxi Championship.
