TP52s fly up to Gold Coast
A sunny day, a light sea-breeze; this year the 2023 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race delivered a picture-perfect start for the fleet of fifty-seven boats. The undulating line of white and black sails included those belonging to seven TP52s who jostled for position, before they began weaving their way out of the heads.

The 2023 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Prizegiving
The 2023 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Prizegiving yesterday brought the race week to a fitting close. Competitors came together at Southport Yacht Club to celebrate the many divisional winners & placegetters & were extremely warm in their appreciation of the crews that had triumphed in what had been a challenging trip north. Thanks again to the staff & volunteers that made the race possible & to Noakes Group & Audi Centre Sydney for their continued support.

Winners announced for Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race
URM Group is the Overall winner of the 2023 Peter Rysdyk Memorial Trophy for the 2023 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, while Andoo Comanche has claimed Line Honours. This is the first in the six-race Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore 2023/24. Philosopher, sailed by David Henry and Stephen Prince, took first prize in the Two-Handed IRC division (as well as IRC Div 3), while other notable mentions go to Tempo (IRC Div 1) and Popeye (IRC Div 2).

Smuggler's first out of the heads and into Southport
Smuggler was the first TP52 out of the harbour on 29 July in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Race, and is proud to be one of the first to make it to the Southport Yacht Club. Finishing with a time of 2 days 10 hours and 34 minutes, the crew crossed the finish line at 11:34pm, and were still coherent 12 hours later when we chatted to them.

Sticky spots holes to enjoy a great finish in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race
Sticky is a beautiful Cookson 50 owned by Richard Harris. After they finished the race with a time of 2 days 12 hours and 24 minutes. We caught up with the young sailor Hugo Butterworth to chat about his first Southport race and their arrival off Main Beach at 1.24am in the early hours of Day 4.

A quick chat with Michael Spies, skipper of Maritimo on the docks
Michael Spies, skipper of TP52 Maritimo, is well known in the sailing community. Hailing from the Gold Coast, he has done approximately twenty-five Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Races, and almost double that number of Sydney Hobarts. Known as strong proponent of ocean racing, Spies has helped modify many yachts in his business so that others can go faster, and sail further. And he sails on Maritimo, Bill Barry Cotter's boat who runs Maritimo. Many would admit he has done a lot to raise the profile of sailing in Australia, especially in Queensland.
