Ichi Ban
After christening the newest incarnation of the Ichi Ban, Matt Allen was quick to show what she was capable of with a double line honours and overall win in last October's Newcastle Bass Island Race and then finishing off with the biggest win in the Australian Offshore calendar, claiming the win in the 2017 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht race, the Tattersall Cup and the Rolex timepiece.
The team were in no place to slow down heading north to take on the QantasLink Brisbane Gladstone Race which Ichi Ban was able to smash the current race record by three and a half hours bring the elapsed time for a conventionally ballasted boat to 19 hours, 36 minutes and 42 seconds. In doing this Matt Allen took the overall prize and coveted Courier Mail Cup and achieved a historic Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race/Brisbane to Gladstone double. The boat also managed a haul of other prizes including winner of the ORCi division, Four Cities Cup and the Federation Cup, the Club team event, with fellow CYCA boats Team Hollywood and Sail Exchange.
With Matt's old boat also competing and putting up good fight in the Brisbane to Gladstone Race the team are looking to keep the hot streak going as they enter the 2018 season.
