Wasabi

With its distinctive frog-green hull, Wasabi was designed and built for the 2007 Melbourne Osaka two-handed race for Ken Down. Current owner, Bruce McKay, purchased Wasabi in June 2008 and has competed in many offshore races including the Sydney Gold Coast race, which he last entered in 2011, when the keel fell off the yacht on the second night. Fortunately they were only three miles off the coast in calm conditions and between the water ballast and crew, the boat stayed afloat. McKay also sailed two seasons with the SSAA (Short Handed Sailing Association of Australia). The boat lights up in the off-the-wind conditions for which she was built, so she will have a good race with the Inglis designs if the race pans out that way.
