With his previous Celestial, a Rogers 46 (now racing as The Goat), Sam Haynes won the 2014 Land Rover Sydney Gold Coast Yacht race overall and went on to claim the Blue Water Pointscore under IRC and ORCi, of which the Gold Coaster is the first race. His win was impressive, as nearest rivals were the larger Black Jack, Wild Oats XI and Ichi Ban, which finished second to fourth overall. Haynes recently purchased the TP52 Fomo and renamed her Celestial. He is eager to successfully defend his Gold Coast win. First outing with the TP52 was the NSW IRC Championship in April where he finished sixth and he finished the Land Rover Winter Series third overall in Division A1 in July. Haynes and the Rogers 46 were 11th overall and second in Division 2 in last year’s Hobart and third overall to Victoire in the 2013 race, with a second overall under ORCi. There were other wins and podium places between the two races.
