Ariel

Ariel placed 25th overall and second in Division 2 last year, with Ron Forster contesting his first Land Rover Sydney Gold Coaster. He and Phil Damp left a raft of other Beneteau 40’s and even a Beneteau 45 in their wake as they built towards the foundations of even better results. They didn’t have long to wait – Ariel outdid a classy field to finish third overall in the Rolex Sydney Hobart, first overall under ORCi for divisional wins in both categories. Ariel was fourth overall in the 2013 CYCA’s Blue Water Pointscore, but dropped to 14th in the 2014 BWPS, which was dominated by the larger yachts. Come the July 25 start of the LRSGCYR, she will have at least three other Beneteau 40’s to compete with and a number of their bigger sisters as well. Addition of Ian Short adds credence to this campaign.
