Although extensively raced offshore in the late 1980's and 1990’s out of MHYC with its previous owner, Mister Christian has been cruising in recent years. Tony Purkiss, the 2008 CYCA Highly Commended Ocean Crew Person of the Year and legally blind yachtsman, has chartered Mister Christian for this race. Purkiss is competing his 20th Audi Sydney Gold Coast Race, along with a group of mates who have been sailing together for a number of years. They have entered the 25th Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race in a yacht that is over 25 years old to "have a bit of fun”.
