CYCA Commodore Matt Allen upsized prior to last year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart in which he placed fourth overall on handicap, first in division and second over the line. He went on to take line honours in the Audi Sydney Southport in March. This Jones 70 competed in the 2005-06 VOR but has since been extensively modified from its original Volvo 70 configuration. In the right conditions these boats are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 30 knots making Ichi Ban a serious challenger for line honours and possibly a new race record should it blow hard from the south.
