The Boat

Indigo II is a Marten 49, a yacht that exemplifies a new approach to cruising yacht design and construction. Marten Yachts, utilizing Reichel-Pugh design and SP Technologies, have created a vessel that combines America’s Cup-style construction methods with advanced materials. The Marten 49 is built at the Azzura Marine facility in Nowra, New South Wales, renowned for its quality finishes and attention to detail.

Racing Program

Since Darryn Purdy acquired Indigo II around18 months ago, the crew has been diligently building their racing program. The team has participated in several offshore races in Queensland, including the City to Surf and Brisbane to Gladstone races. Stacey Jackson remarked, "We have been focusing on constant improvement. The forecast for the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race includes some reaching conditions, which isn't ideal for us, but after the start we should be able to stretch our legs. We just want to keep building our confidence and focus on the crew aspect."

The Crew

Indigo II sails with a crew of 11, including three Kiwis, several Brisbane locals, and one sailor from Adelaide. The crew's composition is a testament to the strong friendships and long-standing relationships among the members. Stacey highlighted the importance of these bonds, saying, "These friendships are a great starting point for all our crew work, it brings us close together."

One key crew member is Lucas Down, a Brisbane local, who brings a wealth of offshore racing experience. His expertise is invaluable to the team, contributing to their overall performance and strategy.
