The Official Race briefing for the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Race was conducted this evening, Thursday 24 July, from 1800 hours with over 150 people in attendance.

Michael Logan, Manager, Bureau of Meteorology, announced the conditions that the fleet of 76 yachts may experience over the race period. For the start of the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race at 1pm on Saturday 26 July, light westerly winds of approx 5-10 knots are forecast. The outlook for Saturday appears to be mostly fine with a maximum temperature of 17C.

These winds will lighten into Sunday tending sou’westerly during the day and tend westerly into the evening.

Recent weather patterns that have occurred in the Tasman Sea  have brought  the cold weather that Sydney has been experiencing this past week. This activity will ease on Saturday and Sunday providing lighter conditions. By late Monday afternoon, an expected  low will intensify and provide moderate to strong southerly winds for those boats at the back of the fleet.

Keen enthusiasts can track the fleet as they sail up the coast as each yacht is fitted with the CYCA’s unique yacht tracking device which sends regular updates to the race website – http://goldcoast.cyca.com.au. Details of all yachts participating in the event can be found under ‘The Yachts’ tab.
