Bob Steel’s new TP52 Quest from the US (where it raced as Bright Star) will make its debut Australian offshore race in the Audi Sydney Gold Coast. With the boat only arriving into Sydney in late April, Bob has had to quickly assemble a new race crew. It will be interesting to compare the boat speed between the two TP52s, Wot Yot (Graeme Wood) and Quest, in their first offshore match up given Wood has had a nine month head start learning how to squeeze the maximum speed out of the Transpac and training up the crew, which includes many of Bob’s former key crew members. A former overall winner of the Rolex Sydney Hobart with his previous Nelson/Marek design, Bob has a heavy program of racing ahead including Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, the Rolex Trophy and Rolex Sydney Hobart and Skandia Geelong Week in January next year.
