Wild Oats XI takes Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race line honours

Bob Oatley’s Wild Oats XI, skippered by Mark Richards, took line honours in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s (CYCA) 384 nautical mile Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race this morning at 07.11.27am, finishing the race in one day 18hr 11min 27sec to confirm she is still the fastest super maxi in Australia.

Wasabi loses keel in Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race

Last night at 9.55pm, Bruce McKay reported his yacht Wasabi had lost her keel while racing in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s (CYCA) 384 nautical mile Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race. All aboard are safe.

Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race record stays for another year

Brindabella’s 1999 Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race record is safe for another year; race leader, Wild Oats XI, is well behind the time of 27 hours 35min 03 sec, the super maxi was just south of Coffs Harbour and 148 nautical miles from the Southport finish line at 4.45pm, so Mark Richards and his crew will saw the record slip out of their grasp at 4.35.03pm this afternoon.

Smallest boat leads Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race overall

At midnight last night, the 100 footers, Wild Oats XI and Investec Loyal were going at it hammer and tongs in the 2011 Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race and this morning, very little has changed, only “The Oats” has doubled the lead on her adversary to just over six nautical miles this morning at 7.00am and the smallest boat in the fleet, Aroona, is the overall leader.

Even though it was only a light 5 knot nor-easterly wind that got the 69 yachts in the 2011 Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race away on Sydney Harbour at 1.00pm today, the battle was no less exciting, as Anthony Bell’s Investec Loyal and Bob Oatley’s Wild Oats XI set the scene for a thrilling chase to the finish of the 384 nautical mile race.
