Audi IRC Australian Championship on a hair trigger
Following the announcement of final results in a protest-riddled Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Rod Jones’ Archambault 40 Alegria leads Graeme Wood’s Judel Vrojlik 52 Wot Now by a whisker heading into the final round of the national Audi IRC Australian Championship at Audi Hamilton Island Race Week.

Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race Fleet Home, Sanyo Maris Retires and Results Confirmed
At midnight last night Ian Kiernan and Tiare Tomaszewski’s Tasman Seabird Sanyo Maris retired just south of Cape Byron due to wind conditions. Sanyo Maris was expected to arrive at Southport at approx. 8.25am this morning. This meant that The Rum Consortium’s Davidson 12 Phillips Foote Witchdoctor was the last yacht to finish the 24th Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race at 9.31pm on 28 July 2009.

AFR Midnight Rambler declared the IRC Overall Winner
At 1300hrs this afternoon, Ed Psaltis and Bob Thomas’s modified Farr 40 AFR Midnight Rambler was declared the IRC Overall Winner of the 24th Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race. After a long tough and hard race, but one that was strangely emotional, owner Ed Psaltis was very pleased to be informed of his IRC Overall win by Commodore Matt Allen.

Mild Southerly to SW winds pushing Audi Sydney Gold Coast fleet home
The predicted south/sou’westerly winds have arrived and are helping the remainder of the fleet arrive in Southport. At 0830hrs 49 boats had arrived in Southport, with the remainder of the fleet expected to arrive steadily over the course of the day and into the night with the last boat expected to cross the finish line tomorrow at approx. 11.50am.

Wild Oats X takes line honours and the battle for IRC Overall continues
Robert Oatley’s Wild Oats X, skippered by Mark Richards has added another line honours win to their ever increasing record list, crossing the finish line of the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race at 2.29pm in a race time of 2 days, 1 hr, 29mins and 23 seconds. Wild Oats X crossed the finish line with their number 2 headsail and mainsail full of westerly breeze.
