Never, say never - Koa returns for Noakes Sydney Gold Coast
KOA co-owner Andy Kearnan grew up in Western Australia with every kind of watersport at his disposal. “In Perth, most people have saltwater running through their veins,” says Kearnan while preparing for the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast race. “For me it started with surfing and windsurfing and then dinghies, inshore keel boats and then offshore racing. Now I've been at it for more than 45 years.”

Corinthian Spirit
Geoff Hill is the well-known owner of the Santa Cruz 52 Antipodes and he is a living embodiment of the Corinthian Spirit. An amiable merchant banker and terrific advocate for the sport, Hill was first inspired to start sailing after watching Alan Bond win the America’s Cup in 1983. Hill has now done all of the iconic races including Newport, Bermuda, and a Rolex Fastnet race, as well as having had the experience of being overall winner on Love & War in the 2006 Rolex Sydney-Hobart.

At 9.9 metres, Rum Rebellion rates among the smaller boats in the fleet. “Rum Rebellion is not extreme in design. But the J/99 is kind to her crew, strongly built and reliable. She is designed as a good all-rounder. We focus on having her immaculately prepared, safe and match-ready for offshore racing conditions with subtle improvements to her rig, sail plan and interior each year,” Connelly says.
