Daguet 2's Australian offshore Debut: From the Med to the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race

The Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race is set to witness the debut of *Daguet 2*, a well-campaigned Mylius 50 recently acquired by Peter Byford of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) and Rob Aldis of the Middle Harbour Yacht Club (MHYC).

The yacht has already made waves in the Mediterranean, clinching first place overall in the IRC Division B at the prestigious Saint-Tropez Regatta in early October 2023.

Rob Aldis shared insights into their journey with Daguet 2, recounting the steps that led to its current status. "It is a bit of a complicated boat. We bought it in the Med in June last year, then participated in the Saint-Tropez Sail Week after which we brought the boat from Europe to Australia. It arrived late December last year," he explained.

Looking ahead, the team has an exciting calendar planned for the year. "We see the year starting with the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, then Gold Coast to Mackay Yacht Race. After that, we'll cruise up to Hamilton Island and participate in the Hamilton Island Race Week in the boat’s 'fun-mode'. We also plan to compete in the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore (ACSBWPS) wrapping it all up with the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race," Aldis outlined.

While the boat is new to the team, the crew is eager to unlock its full potential. "It is a new boat to us, so we have to learn how to sail it properly. There is a lot of potential to sail to its rating, so we have to keep working at it. We know we can get around a course, but consistency is difficult to achieve," Aldis noted.

The crew composition for offshore races is also a work in progress. "It is a pretty new crew offshore. For the regatta crew, there are a few people who came from Khaleesi (Rob's previous yacht) with me. We have built the offshore crew alongside the regatta crew," Aldis said.

For the upcoming Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, the team's goals are clear. "We want to finish the race and sail well to our standard. Where we finish is less important," Aldis emphasised.

As Daguet 2 embarks on its Australian racing journey, the team is focused on learning, improving, and enjoying the experience. The Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race will be an important milestone in their ongoing adventure of unlocking this yacht's full potential.
