The Making Waves Foundation is thrilled to announce their participation in the upcoming Noakes Sydney Southport Yacht Race 2024, set to commence on Saturday 27 July at 1300hrs.
Their entry, MWF Kayle, a Lyons 54ft custom yacht , is ready to make waves once again as they sail on behalf of disability.
Last year, their dedicated crew participated in their 21st Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race campaign, after a five-year hiatus from offshore racing for Kayle. The extensive boat preparation from last year is already paying dividends, allowing them to place greater emphasis on their crew this season.
In preparation, the crew has undergone rigorous inshore sail change and reef testing sessions to finalise team selection. Additionally, the team conducted two offshore training sessions with the selected crew. The first session saw the crew sail towards Wollongong, but intense conditions kept us nearer to Sydney. The second offshore test, to Newcastle and back, provided better training conditions, allowing the crew to refine their skills.
The Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race marks the beginning of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore series, which will culminate in the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. “We are especially proud to announce that 50% of our crew members are living with a disability, demonstrating our commitment to inclusivity and excellence in sailing” shared Rachel Ward, Making Waves’ Business Development Manager.
“The Making Waves Foundation crew looks forward to embarking on this journey and looks forward to a thrilling race.” Stay tuned for updates as Kayle and their remarkable crew set sail in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race via the Yacht Tracker Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race 2024 (cyca.com.au) 'MWF Kayle' Along with Making Waves direct social and website accounts (see below)
