RACE UPDATE | 1600hrs Sunday 28 July

It has been an exciting day with crews keeping the pressure on

Moving through the afternoon of the second day of racing for the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, the Oatley family's Wild Oats X is still holding a 9 nautical mile lead with No Limit and Naval Group sitting almost side by side in second and third place on line honours.

Wild Oats X is currently 64 nautical miles from the finish line off Main Beach. They are expected to be crossing the finish line around 2100hrs this evening. Be sure to stay tuned to the website and the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race facebook page as the finish will be Live Streamed to catch all the action.

Fourth on line honours and currently leading overall as well as IRC Div1, ORCi and ORCi Div1 in Matt Allen's TP52 Ichi Ban. They have been able to make good ground on the fleet today and extended their gap back to Chinese Whisper and the second of the TP52s Envy Scooters.

We heard from Barry Cuneo the skipper of Envy Scooters at 1520hrs this afternoon: "We are just north of Yamba - right next to Chinese Whisper, so we can hardly complain. Ichi Ban has held her lead over us. Our chances are slim to overhaul her lead."

PHS is currently lead by Michael McDonald's Stampede (also first in Corinthian-PHS) with She's the Culprit in second. Tony Levett's TSA Management is at the front of the Sydney 38 fleet with Ian Creak's Ausreo first in Corinthian-IRC

The first retirement was recorded this afternoon. Matthew Hanning's Supernova sustained rudder bearing damage and have made their way to Port Macquarie with all crew onboard safe.
