A finish time for each yacht is recorded when a red laser beam, which is projected from the De Ville apartments at Main Beach by the team of radio operators, is trained onto the yacht's bow as it crosses the line between two laid buoys.

Once each yacht finishes, it is escorted across the Gold Coast seaway and into the safety of the Broadwater and finally a berth at Southport Yacht Club marina.
